Why I Wrote This Book
As the mother of a child with Auditory Processing Disorder, I know how easily listening difficulties can be mistaken for behavior.
I wrote They Think That I Don’t Listen to help children feel less alone and to give families a simple way to begin conversations about listening, communication and asking for help.
The story is about more than the difficulties that can come with APD. It is also about patience, perseverance and the difference supportive parents, teachers and friends can make.
Most importantly, I wanted children to understand:
You are not lazy. You are not ignoring everyone. You may simply need information presented in a way that works better for you.
